It's National Apprenticeship Week this week and you may see adverts in the press and on TV promoting apprenticeships. What are they, you may ask. Apprentices are employees who earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff in business to gain job-specific skills and nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships can take between 1 and 4 years to complete depending on the level of Apprenticeship, the apprentices' ability and the industry. If aged between 16 and 18 the training is fully funded by the government and the minimum apprentice wage is £2.60 an hour - although the average is £170 per week take home pay. But do remember that apprenticeships are not just for school or college leavers
